Guide: How to post scripts.
Posted: Thu May 01, 2025 12:58 pm
Since I've had a few people ask me I thought I would go ahead and put a little guide together on how to post scripts to the site.
The first thing to do is to go to your favorite file hosting site. There are many of these around. Sendspace, mediafire, megaupload, bodango, and so on. Do not use rapidshare or zshare, we have had nothing but problems with them. Then you click browse, select the file that you want to share and click upload. The file hosting site will then give you a link as to where you can go to download the file. Copy this link and...
(I'll use Inglorious Bastards by QT as an example)
Go to the I forum under Scriptsology
Click New Topic.
You will then see a post page where you can enter your details.
Subject: Inglorious Bastards by Quentin Tarantino (Make sure you put who it's by just to be a little more organized.)
Message: Click code and put the link that you copied from the file hosting site inside the code tags.
Click submit.
Also if you want to add links to the post you can, if you want to put your thoughts on the script you can. It is your post and you get credit for sharing with the community. Thank you all for making this work.

Which of your ears do you consider most important?"[/align]

Posting screenplays
[*] Check if it's already here
[*] Entering the Post Subject:
[*] Uploading the file
Scriptsology does not host the screenplays and files contributed by members. All we do is store the links to those files in the same manner Google indexes and stores links to files everywhere on the web. So you'll be uploading your file to a file-hosting service and posting the link here.
[*] Filling in the Post Body
It's up to you how much info you add to your post. Consider the following. Draft date, file size, and page count are important because they help us identify the correct file when re-uploading expired links.
[*] Adding the file download link to your post

Searching for screenplays
- General notes about the Forum's search function:
- Each word must consist of at least two characters and must not contain more than 14 characters (excluding wildcards)
- Some common words are ignored
- Hyphenated words are treated as separate words, so omit the hyphen when searching
- a search for 'hitch-hiker' will not match 'hitch-hiker'
- a search for 'hitch hiker' will match 'hitch-hiker'
- Searching by Title or Author in main search page:
- Where posted correctly, every screenplay topic first-post will have in the topic title the full name of the script and the author names, so you can limit your search options to Topic Titles only.
- If you search on a title and get no hits, try searching on an author name.
- Be mindful that a script might be posted under an alternate name
- Searching within individual forums
- An alternative to using the main search page is to visit the forum you think the script will be in, go to the search box at the bottom of the page, and type your search criteria there (name of script or name of author).

Posting screenplays
[*] Check if it's already here
- Your first task is to confirm the script you intend to post is not yet available on the site. See the section 'Searching for screenplays' above for instructions.
- What about different drafts?
If you've got a different draft to the one already posted, and it's by one or more of the same writers listed in the topic title, place it under the existing topic. If your draft is by a different author (or authors) than the one already posted, put yours in a new topic.
- Screenplay titles beginning with 'A', 'The', 'An', etc. should go in the Forum letter corresponding to their second word. For example:
An Icelandic Werewolf in Tasmania - goes in the 'I' forum
A Day To Remember - goes in 'D'
I Married An Accountant - goes in 'I'
In The Arms Of A Dentist - goes in 'I'
It's All Or Nothing - goes in 'I'
On Friday I Ate Bad Chicken - goes in 'O'
The Unbearable Wobbliness of Jello - goes in 'U' - The main letter forums are for screenplays written by pro authors (have had a released film or have sold a script to industry), upcoming authors (e.g. winners of industry recognised screenplay competitions), and anyone else whose screenplay has generated some kind of industry buzz. Scripts not meeting this criteria should go in the User Submissions forum. That includes your own screenplays (unless you qualify for the letter forums, in which case YOU ROCK!).
- Also, the main letter forums are for PDFs made from scans of printed screenplays, PDFs generated from the author's original screenwriting software (e.g. Final Draft, MovieMagic, etc.), and good-quality digital conversions in industry format. The main letter forums are NOT for poorly formatted text files processed into PDF without correction. Put those in the Non-PDF forum, thanks.
[*] Entering the Post Subject:
- Include the full title and authors in your topic subject, e.g.
The Amazing Adventures of Frenchy McFry by Tony Thicksheik and Anne Von Burger - If the script was released under another name, add the original name as an AKA, e.g.
The Amazing Adventures of Frenchy McFry AKA The Happy Meal Massacre by Tony Thicksheik and Anne Von Burger
Adding the AKA helps when searching on topic titles.
[*] Uploading the file
Scriptsology does not host the screenplays and files contributed by members. All we do is store the links to those files in the same manner Google indexes and stores links to files everywhere on the web. So you'll be uploading your file to a file-hosting service and posting the link here.
- Some file hosts you can use are
- Mediafire.com
- Mega.co.nz
- File hosts you should NOT use
- Sendspace.com
- Rapidshare.com
[*] Filling in the Post Body
It's up to you how much info you add to your post. Consider the following. Draft date, file size, and page count are important because they help us identify the correct file when re-uploading expired links.
- The draft date, if available
- File size. Approximate is fine.
- Page count.
- The file download link (required, of course)
- Other information
- Missing pages
If the scanned script is missing pages, say so. Often these pages turn up from other sources and we're able to merge them to make a complete script. - IMDB link for the released film
- Any other links of interest.
- Missing pages
- A poster shot or other image
There are two ways to add images to your post- Grab a direct link to a picture on the web and put it between IMG tags
- Upload your pic to tinypic.com (or another free image host), grab the link it gives you and paste it between IMG tags
[*] Adding the file download link to your post
- Place your file link inside CODE tags. It should look like this while editing:[/code]This prevents the links from being indexed by Googlebot. Only the script download link needs to go inside CODE tags. Any other links, just paste them directly into your post body.

First-posts
- First-posts are special. We might edit your first-post to:
- Update the script download links
- Add or correct information in the topic title, to ensure accurate search results
- Add a note. Our convention is to surround the note with square brackets to clearly separate it from the original text. Usually the moderator doing the editing will tag it with his or her name. An edit might look like this:
- We don't edit first-posts only. Moderators might need to add a note to another post elsewhere in the topic. In that case we use the same convention of enclosing the note in brackets. A Moderator will never ALTER your post beyond updating download links, adding bracketed notes, or perhaps striking-out some text that has become redundant or misleading. If you feel a Moderator has edited your post in an unreasonable way, please message. or voice your concerns in the same topic. Because all users can edit their own posts at any time, alternatively a Moderator might suggest you edit your post directly. If you notice a Moderator updated your post, feel free to re-edit your post to incorporate the changes. For example, where a Moderator has applied strike-out formatting [s]like this[/s], you might like to remove the affected text. The purpose of Moderator post editing is to keep the Topic up to date and easy to follow.
- Sometimes we might move your post to another topic in the same or another forum. If you can't find a post where you originally posted it, search for it via FORUM INDEX > VIEW YOUR POSTS, or PROFILE > SHOW YOUR POSTS.
- Sometimes we will delete your post. An example is when a screenplay link is dead and you requested a re-up. After the link is revived we'll notify you by PM and then delete your request, to keep the topic free of clutter. Another example is the Requests Forum, where old posts with no recent activity get auto-pruned (deleted).
- Most free file-hosting sites expire their links after a given time or a given period of inactivity. For example, Sendspace deletes files uploaded by non-subscribers if the file hasn't been accessed in a 30-day period. So you'll come across dead links regularly. Simply (1) post a request for a re-up in the same topic, or (2) use the Report button to notify Moderators about the dead link -- with this method, when the report is cleared you'll get back an automatic notification. Anyone can re-up the screenplay to a file-hosting site and post the new link in the topic -- your help is appreciated! After you post a re-up, Moderators will move your link into the first post (with attribution) and generally tidy up as needed.
- Dupes happen and are almost always accidental. Please don't pounce on members who inadvertently double post screenplays. Go ahead and reply politely that the script is already available and include the topic link. Mods will find it and perform any required housekeeping.
- Bookmark the scripts you intend to read. When you're done reading a script, check your bookmarks for more.
- Subscribe to the Forums that interest you, e.g. the main alphabetic screenplay forums. In Forums you're not subscribe to, subscribe to the individual Topics you want to follow. That way you'll never miss an interesting post.
